ENLITEMENT
is logo for our time.
It is based on the concept of Enlightenment as defined by the philosopher
Immanuel Kant*, which "saw remarkable cultural changes characterized
by [...] a turn towards human rights, science, rational thoughts and the
replacement of theocracies and autocracies with democratic republics.
[...] The Enlightenment was also marked by the rise of capitalism
and the wide availability of printed materials. [...] The French Encyclopédie
combined free-thinking articles with technological information" (c.f.
Wikipedia).
enlitement now owes its new style and theory to the guiding paradigm
of a global, economic world that has its roots and basis in this 18th
century development.
enlitement follows the traces of an 'evolution' that defines everything
and everyone as resource, is engaged in (self)exploitation and the colonisation
of nano-, micro- and macroworlds and might further on lead to a renaissance
of "feudal", pre-Enlightenment structures powered by
consumption.
enlitement embodies incorporation in its lite form. Its lucid dilution
shines on ever present markets. By this it is itself ever present and
constitutes the real behind virtual power structures.
* "Enlightenment
is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. Immaturity is the
inability to use one's own understanding without the guidance of another.
This immaturity is self-incurred if its cause is not lack of understanding,
but lack of resolution and courage to use it without the guidance of another.
The motto of enlightenment is therefore: Sapere aude! Have courage to
use your own understanding!"
Immanuel
Kant, in: What is Enlightenment?, 1783.
